چکیده

In this paper, we propose a census transform-based fast stereo algorithm. Most conventional fast stereo algorithms are based on SAD (Sum of Absolute Difference) or NC (Normalized Correlation). However, SAD is often sensitive to noise or illumination changes. Image matching by census transform is known to be robust to radiometric distortion, since the differences in gain and bias between two images will not affect the ordering of pixels within a window. Thus, in this paper, we develop a fast and accurate census transform-based stereo algorithm using the moving window and parallel processing techniques. The resulting system computes 32 disparity of 320 by 240 images at 34 frames per second for the window size of 5x5.

A fast stereo matching algorithm suitable for embedded real-time systems

In this paper, the challenge of fast stereo matching for embedded systems is tackled. Limited resources, e.g. memory and processing power, and most importantly real-time capability on embedded systems for robotic applications, do not permit the use of most sophisticated stereo matching approaches. The strengths and weaknesses of different matching approaches have been analyzed and a well-suited...

Census and Segmentation-Based Disparity Estimation Algorithm Using Region Merging

Disparity estimation is an ill-posed problem in computer vision. It is explored comprehensively due to its usefulness in many areas like 3D scene reconstruction, robot navigation, parts inspection, virtual reality and image-based rendering. In this paper, we propose a hybrid disparity generation algorithm which uses census based and segmentation based approaches. Census transform does not give ...

Illumination Invariant Data Cost using Modified Census Transform

Stereo matching in non-ideal illumination is a challenging area of research. It assumes identical corresponding color values and this assumption is not guaranteed for real-time environment. As a result most of the stereo algorithms fail to generate good disparity. This paper proposes a Modified Census Correlation (MCC) data cost for stereo matching. The proposed data cost will be derived from m...

Fast Trigonometric Functions Using Intel’s Sse2 Instructions

The goal of this work was to answer one simple question: given that the trigonometric functions take hundreds of clock cycles to execute on a Pentium IV, can they be computed faster, especially given that all Intel processors now have fast floating-point hardware? The streaming SIMD extensions (SSE/SSE2) in every Pentium III and IV provide both scalar and vector modes of computation, so it has ...

Short Vector Code Generation for the Discrete Fourier Transform

In this paper we use a mathematical approach to automatically generate high performance short vector code for the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). We represent the well-known Cooley-Tukey fast Fourier transform in a mathematical notation and formally derive a “short vector variant”. Using this recursion we generate for a given DFT a large number of different algorithms, represented as formulas...
